This optional tour extension includes just about everything. Lunches are normally on your own; that is, they are not included except when indicated. Day-by-Day Tour Itinerary |
We
leave Paris CDG Airport this morning for our short journey to Reims, Capital of
the Champagne Department. Before checking into Hotel de la Paix**** in Reims, we
will visit the Salle de Reddition (Museum of the Surrender), site of the
preliminary German surrender on May 7, 1945. The 'Surrender Room' has been
historically preserved in the red schoolhouse that once served as Supreme
Commander Eisenhower's headquarters during the war. Lunch and some free time in Reims.
Tonight we will visit the city's famous underground Champagne cellars and we'll
enjoy a special dinner. Apr
23: BASTOGNE... The Beseiged City The
result of Hitler’s surprise attack in the Ardennes Forest became the largest
battle on the Western Front, The Battle of the Bulge. American soldiers in the
defense of Bastogne met the ultimate test of courage during the Nazi’s bloody,
mid-winter siege of the city. Today we cross over into Belgium to visit the Bastogne
Historical Center and the Mardasson American Memorial. Check-in at Hotel
Melba**** this afternoon with leisure time in Bastogne. Dinner tonight at our
hotel. Apr
24: THE ARDENNES... The Battle of the Bulge This
morning our first stop is the quiet woods of Jaques Bois at the edge of Foy.
Here we will look at some of "Easy" Company's foxholes during the
Bulge (E506 PIR Band of Brothers). Then we continue to the crossroads of Baugnez,
near Malmédy, to visit the site of the infamous ambush and massacre of American
soldiers there. We continue south for a special “Battlefield Tour” (weather
permitting) near the village of Poteau-St.Vith in an authentic preserved WWII
Halftrack vehicle. Free time at the newly renovated Poteau
’44 Museum. We will then head south into the small Grand Duchy of
Luxembourg, for lunch in Diekirch. Afternoon visit to the largest military
museum in the world: The National Museum of Military History in Diekirch.
Transfer back to Bastogne with a stop in Ettelbruck to see the Patton Memorial.
Dinner on your own tonight in Bastogne. Apr
25: LUXEMBOURG - GERMANY... American and German War Cemeteries Our
last stop in the Ardennes will be the American Cemetery in Luxembourg City /
Hamm to see the final resting place of Gen. George S. Patton, Jr. We will also
visit the German War Cemetery at nearby Sandweiler. Continue into Germany to our
castle hotel on the Rhine River with lunch en route. Afternoon check in at our
800 year old castle-hotel overlooking the Rhine River, enchanting Burg Rheinfels****.
Free time for relaxation or shopping in the town of St. Goar on the Rhine.
Dinner on your own either in town or at the castle. Apr
26: RHINE RIVER... Tour Conclusion Transfer
this morning to board our boat for a 3-hour Rhine River Cruise. Lunch at your
leisure on board. Afternoon free time. A special Farewell Dinner will be
held tonight at our castle. Overnight at Rheinfels. Apr
