Operation Valkyrie generally refers to the courageous, but short-lived attempt by members of the German Resistance to assassinate Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944 at the Wolf's Lair...
...Valkyrie was originally the name given to an operational plan developed for the Reserve Army of the German Army. Hitler approved the plan during World War II and intended it to be used in the event of a national emergency inside Germany.

German Resistance and Operation Valkyrie.
Leaders of the German Resistance secretly modified the Valkyrie plan to use it to overthrow the Nazi Regime after assassinating Hitler. It included taking control of German cities, disarming the SS, and arresting high Nazi officials after Hitler's assassination in the July 20 Plot. After lengthy preparation, the plot was carried out in 1944, but did not succeed.
